Geopark Karawanken

Discover the Karawanken UNESCO Global Geopark

Karawanken Geopark is a cross-border geopark, which is connected or separated by a mountain range of the same name. It lies between the two Alpine peaks of Petzen and Koschuta, which are over 2,000 metres high. Its total area is 1,067 km2 and is inhabited by about 53,000 people. The administrative boundaries of the Geopark follow the boundaries of 14 municipalities.

 

 

Tunnel biking: By bike through the mine tunnel

In Mesica, Slovenia - a 15-minute drive from the Petzen valley station - bikers with a pit lamp and helmet can enter an abandoned lead and zinc mine. Without great differences in altitude, the more than 5 km long underground path leads through the mine, the bike guides explain a lot of interesting facts about the ancient history of mining. Get ready to experience an unforgettable adventure.

 

Underground Kayaking

A trip to the underground labyrinth of the Petzen and kayak in the underground lake is without a doubt a unique and breathtaking experience. You will be fascinated by the quiet world of stone monuments that have been processed over time by our miners.
